I had my very own private knitting class tonight. I learned to cast on, knit, purl, and cast off. All in all, I'm pretty proud of myself. I'm still rather clumsy. When I got home to work on my project, I dropped stitches all over the place. I didn't spend a fortune on the yarn, so I'm not really worried about it, but I would like to know what happened and exactly how one begins to drop stitches. I have enough yarn that I think I might start over again tomorrow to see how I do. I am so excited that I'm learning how to do this new hobby! The local knitting/yarn store has the MOST beautiful yarn I've ever seen in my life. They also offer really neat classes. I hope I'm good enough soon to take a class.

Oh... you just made me think of some books you should read. The first was called "The Shop on Blossom Street". The second is called "A Good Yarn". They are about a woman who opens a yarn store and makes wonderful friends with the women who sign up for her classes. They were very easy reads... but I thought very good. Oh, and they were written by Debbie Macomber.
Because... you know... I'm sure you have tons of time to add reading books to your list of things to do!

I haven't a clue what cast on, knit, purl and cast off mean, but I am glad you love your new craft and are having "me" time. I treasure hand knitted items from my grandmother and C's grandmother. You'll be creating heirlooms in no time.

If you ever need a really patient helper, my mom would love to sit and knit with you! Nana taught herself to knit in the hopes of teaching Aubrey, but Aubrey lost interest...Nana didn't! I am always so amazed by your creativity and desire to make beautiful things. Have fun! Love, Andi
Wish I was there so I could show you how to pick up those dropped stitches!!! I remember my first efforts with some humour!! My Grandma taught me and spent a great deal of time unpicking my mistakes :-D
